Long-term frequency stabilization of a CW tunable laser.pdf

Abstract:
For the first time to our knowledge we experimentally demonstrate an efficient method for the reduction of long-term radiation line drift in single-frequency cw Ti:sapphire and dye lasers that relies on a fast and precise wavelengthmeter together with a digital-analog feedback system. Generation line drift of lasers is reduced approximately by an order of magnitude down to 40 MHz/h, which corresponds to the residual drift in readings of the wavelengthmeter itself. The implemented automatic frequency control system allows us to lock the laser generation frequency to a specified absolute value. This approach may be used in single-frequency lasers of different types (solid-state, fiber, diode, dye lasers, etc.) and allows reduction by an order of magnitude or more of the long-term generation line drift in lasers that are not equipped with other systems for long-term stabilization of output radiation frequency.

Longterm Stability of the WS Ultimate with Autocalibration 01/2007

NEW: WS Ultimate with Autocalibration. A second fiber input provides automatic, continuous calibration with any wellknown calibration wavelength standard. The measurement counts or time period between calibrations is adjustable.
The picture shows a longterm measurement of a frequency doubled, Iodine stabilized Nd:YAG-laser by a WS Ultimate with autocalibration. A frequency stabilized HeNe-laser was used as calibration source. The measurement was done overnight in a laboratory without any air conditioning or temperature stabilization! The stability of the WS Ultimate was better than +/- 2 MHz for more than 11 hours!

TOP-NEWS! Frequency stabilization by WS Ultimate 06/2006

Recent measurements proofed the WS Ultimate to be more accurate than the specifications! We were able to lock a semiconductor laser diode by a WS Ultimate to an accuracy of +/- 2 MHz for over 20 Minutes.
We had driven a magneto optical trap (MOT) and couldn't distinguish any difference in the behaviour of the MOT compared to a conventional spectroscopy locked laser.
Additionally the stability of the frequency was controlled by beat signal measurement.


NEW Option: LC-PID

We've improved the Laser-Control-option by a PID-controller. The PID-option now provides the possibility to keep the laser frequency fixed (like the LC-option) and even to let the frequency follow any arbitrary mathematic function, e.g. sine, triangle, rectangle, heavyside, etc. and any combination of them. The single parameters of the proportional (P), integral (I) and derivative (D) part can be set independently as well as the total sensitivity (V/nm).
For example, the following pictures show the combination of triangle- and sine-modulation of a DFB-laserdiode running at 780 nm:
