Why is the (re-)calibration of wlm that important?

Some people think, it's not necessary to recalibrate their device as they're not interested in absolute measurement results. They think the recalibration only sets one point while the rest of the calibration curve is shifted proportionally. But this is not the whole truth. In spite of no movable parts within our devices, the optics are possible shifted or tilted by and by due to temperature drifts and mechanical stress. To overcome this problem and to ensure the high accuracy, during a calibration not only a single wavelength value is stored but also the whole inteference pattern of all interferometers. So very small anomalies can be detected and elliminated. Therefore it's necessary to recalbirate the wlm from time to time.
