In multimode switches and fibers, multiple transversal modes can be transmitted at the same time. These modes can interfere with each other in the wavemeter during the measurement, leading to the so-called speckle effect. This has an adverse influence on the illumination of wavelength meters, thereby drastically worsening the measurement accuracy. The specifications for the thus affected accuracy can be found in the “Quick coupling accuracy” section of the wavemeter specification sheets.
